Boys track wins, Boys weightlifting 2nd, water polo wins

LONGWOOD— Seminole High School boys’ weightlifting turned in a strong performance at the district meet hosted by Lyman High School, finishing second overall in traditional lifts and third in Olympic lifts.

Luis Ojeda led the way as a double district champion in the 119-pound class, winning both Olympic and traditional style titles.

TJ Thompson claimed a district championship in Olympic lifts and finished second in traditional lifts in the 238-pound class.

Said Djalilov placed second in traditional lifts in the 139-pound class, while Antwan McLaughlin earned a runner-up finish in the 169-pound class.

Omari Griffin added a third-place finish in traditional lifts in the 183-pound class, and Deegan Batista placed third in the 129-pound class.


TRACK AND FIELD

Seminole High School track and field battled through difficult weather conditions to deliver a strong showing at the SAC Championships, with the boys team capturing the title and the girls finishing as runners-up.

Several Seminole athletes earned individual conference championships on the night.

On the boys side, Julian Rogers won the shot put, while Nygel Pardo swept both the long jump and triple jump. Jayden Aristile added a title in the high jump.

For the girls, Khalia King claimed the high jump, and Imani Reid won both the 100-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash. Natalia Voltaire took first in the 100-meter dash.

Seminole’s 4×100-meter relay team of Dorriah Ruffin, Reid, Vanessa Lowery and Voltaire also finished first.

Zamaya Brown won the 400-meter dash and teamed with Reid, Lowery and Voltaire to win the 4×400-meter relay.

The Seminole girls’ 4×400 relay is currently ranked fifth in the state of Florida.


BOYS LACROSSE

WINTER SPRINGS — In an FHSAA district playoff matchup, Seminole High School boys lacrosse came up just short in a 9-8 loss to Winter Springs High School boys lacrosse.

Liam Souza led Seminole with three goals as the offense generated 29 shots and eight goals, adding four assists.

Water Polo

LONGWOOD — Seminole High School girls basketball captured its fourth consecutive district championship with an 18-3 victory over Lake Mary High School girls basketball. Gabby Pierson led the team with three assists, while Julia Pando, Naia Hair, Halle Zimlich, Raelynn Bouley and Vivian Swain each added two assists. Zimlich tallied six steals, while Hair and Bouley added three steals each, and Pierson recorded nine saves. The team will advance to the Region 1 Quarterfinals Monday, opponent TBD.

On the boys side, Seminole High School boys basketball secured its third straight district championship with a 19-7 win over Lake Mary High School boys basketball. Adam Walker paced the offense with seven assists and four steals, while Timmy Samples added four assists and three steals. Becton Suber and Brayden Tarkowski contributed two assists each, with Tarkowski adding two steals, and Luc LeRoy recorded three steals. Ethan Pierson finished with eight saves. Seminole will advance to the Region 1 Quarterfinals Tuesday, opponent TBD.
