In dramatic fashion the Seminole girls got by Spruce Creek to win their first District title in program history.
After nearly 100 minutes in scoreless back-and-forth match, Kaiya Coulthart put a header into the upper right corner with 1:17 left in the second overtime to send the Seminole girls into the FHSAA 7A Regional Tournament.
The Seminole Girls will travel to Jacksonville to face top-seeded and U.S. Number 1 Creekside (16-0-1) on Feb 4 in the FHSAA 7A Regional 1 quarter-finals.
Seminole dominated early on in the game with several scoring opportunity before the teams settled into their back-and-forth contest.
Youssef Faid and Alejandro Martinez had a pair of goals each to lead the Seminole boys in their 4-0 win over DeLand in the District championship.
The Noles seemingly took the lead with 28 mins left in the first half only to have the goal waved off for a hand ball. Three minutes later, Martinez found
the back of the net when the Senior redirected a Seminole corner kick for the only goal the host would need.Seminole took a 2-0 lead into the half en route to the win.
The Seminole Boys will also travel to Jacksonville to face top-seeded Creekside on Feb 4 in the FHSAA 7A Regional 1 quarter-finals.
