Talk about a marathon. Seminole and West Orange would need not one, but SEVEN overtimes to finally settle things on Feb. 11.
With the host Seminoles up 2-1 at the half, the Vikings tied the game in the third and the team would each add a pair of goals in the fourth quarter forcing the overtimes.
Gavin Lampe had 19 saves, Robert Delany and Parker Saben each had a pair of goals to lead the Seminoles.
Earlier in the week, Jacob Cannone scored three goals, including the game-winner, as Seminole edged host Merrit Island 11-10 behind a balanced offensive effort on Feb 10.
Delany added two goals, Cade Lynady scored twice, and Myles Smith chipped in one. Lampe delivered a key late save to preserve the win.
Baseball
Brandon Simms went 4-for-4 at the to power Seminole past Colonial 12–7 on Feb 12 at home.
Simms finished with a triple, double and two singles as the Seminoles jumped out early and never trailed. The Seminoles scored in each of the first three innings, building a multi-run cushion.
Seminole totaled 14 hits and drew six walks, stealing six bases in the win. Henry Mairs earned the win on the mound, striking out four over three innings, and the Seminole bullpen combined to shut down Colonial the rest of the way.
Seminole returns home Tuesday to face Lake Howell.
Softball
Winter Springs — Mary Long went 3-for-3 and homered as Seminole fell to Cornerstone 6–2 on Feb 11 in a preseason game.
Long accounted for all of Seminole’s offense with a two-run home run in the sixth inning after the Seminoles drew six walks and stayed patient at the plate. Cornerstone scored early to build a lead, but Seminole showed late power and fight to close the gap.
In the second game of the night, Seminole rallied from an early deficit and got a key two-RBI effort from Hurley Romero in a tie East Ridge at 4-each.
After East Ridge scored twice in the first, Seminole answered in the second to take a 3–2 lead on run-scoring walks by Romero and Maggie Long. East Ridge later tied the game in the fifth, but Seminole held steady behind a five-inning start from Long and timely hits throughout the lineup.
Romero finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs, while Mary Long, Romero and three others added hits for the Fighting Seminoles.
