‘Scrappy’ Noles fall short in Districts Title match

LAKE MARY – Despite a three-set loss to host Lake Mary in the FHSAA 1A District 3 Championship match on May 2, Seminole boys’ volleyball coach Isaac Raphael was still smiling.

“We played scrappy, and I am proud of them,” Raphael said. “I think we lacked some experience at this level, but that is fine we’re building this program.”

The Rams jumped out early on the Seminoles in the first set however, the Noles hung close before losing 25-28. The second set was a different story for the Noles going up 9-3 early. That is where the experience level hit the Seminoles as Lake Mary battled back to tie the set at 16 before putting it away 25-20.

“We played well, and they fought (hard),” Raphael said. “Our services broke down some, but I think if we stayed in it and won that set – we had our chances – that we could have won the match.”

The Noles kept the third and decoding set close but lost 25-21.

Seminole will have to wait to learn its fate for the next round of the post-season, regional pairings are announced on May 5.

“Now we’ll go home (and wait).,” Raphael said. “I think we should make regionals; we just have to wait.”
