Seminole’s boys and girls swimming teams turned in a strong performance Wednesday at a home meet against Oviedo and Bishop Moore, highlighted by multiple individual victories and two first-place relay finishes for the boys.
Will McWard led the Seminole boys by winning two individual events, taking first in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly. John Slater also earned an individual victory, winning the 100 freestyle.
The Seminole boys added two relay victories. Slater, Chase Lampe, Caiden Thompson and Anthony Wade won the 200 freestyle relay, while Alex Quach, Slater, Thompson and McWard finished first in the 400 freestyle relay.
On the girls side, Abigail Coleman won the 50 freestyle, while Gabby Pierson captured the 100 freestyle.
Seminole will return to the pool Saturday for the Lake Brantley Invitational. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m., with finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
The swimming results highlighted a busy stretch for Seminole athletics.
Seminole’s girls volleyball team earned a straight-set victory over Lake Howell on Tuesday night, winning 25-19, 25-16, 25-23.
Lia Hufford led the Seminole attack with 13 kills and five digs, while Ciara Vazquez added 12 kills. Mckaylah Mattis contributed six kills, 25 assists, four aces and five digs.
The boys cross country team turned in a strong performance at the Astronaut Invitational, finishing third among 32 teams with 146 points.
Tyler Clarke-Lowery led the Noles, finishing 13th overall in 17:18.8, a season-best time for him. Jadan Prudot was 26th in 17:39.9, followed by Brady Clark in 30th at 17:57.2, Oscar Loredo in 32nd at 18:05.7 and Akshay Bangalore in 45th at 18:23.6.
Joseph Fisher finished 59th in 18:46.4 and Giovany Rodriguez was 60th in 18:47.3. Christian Li finished 75th in 19:07.3.
In the boys junior varsity race, Ammar Rizwi finished fifth in 19:38.1 and Bryce Hammond was 10th in 20:20.7, giving Seminole two top-10 finishers among 188 runners.
The Seminole girls cross country team did not score after three runners completed the varsity race. Nimrah Qureshi finished 130th in 28:12.3, followed by Nina Sucre in 141st at 31:10.9 and Nivriti Tumalla in 145th at 32:10.5.
Seminole’s girls golf team picked up its second consecutive victory Tuesday, defeating Lake Howell 210-189.
The boys golf team lost a close 147-145 decision to Lake Howell at Casselberry Golf Club. Freshman Yosh Tiwary led Seminole with a 2-under-par 31.
In bowling, the Seminole boys tied Hagerty 1,760-1,760 Tuesday before falling to Lake Mary 2,075-1,890. The girls lost to Hagerty 1,017-602 and Lake Mary 1,722-1,518.
On Wednesday, the Seminole boys fell to Winter Springs 2,145-1,948, while the girls defeated Winter Springs 1,241-1,197.
