Coaches often tell teams to make a statement from the start. Seminole athlete David Parks took that to heart Friday as the Noles opened the season with a 16-7 win over visiting Edgewater.
Parks took the opening snap, started to his right before cutting up the middle and going 75-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game as the Noles took down the visiting Eagles 16-7.

Shortly before the half quarterback Karson Siquerios-Laskey hit Parks for a 25-yard touchdown pass.

“(Parks) lined up at quarterback, he lined up at running back, he lined up at receiver,” said Seminole head coach Karl Calhoun. “We’re trying to use him every way we can. We’re going to use him to the best of his abilities and it showed tonight.”

“Karson was poised and controlled the tempo of the game and made some terrific throws,” Calhoun added.

The Noles coach was quick to point out that it was more than a one-man show during the win. Seminole’s defensive starters shut down the No. 23 team in the nation, after a punt pinned the Eagles at their 5-yard line, Terrance Thompson Jr. sacked the Edgewater quarterback in the endzone to account for the rest of the Seminoles’ scoring.

“It was a great team win against a great team that went 12-1 last year. We were able to control all 3 phases of the game and the boys just played with toughness, urgency, and discipline,” Calhoun said. “A lot of our kids got to display their talents and it was an overall great game. The atmosphere from Bokey Nation was electric!”

Seminole opens the regular season at home next week when the Noles host Rockledge. Game time is set for 7 pm.
