Water Polo wins, softball splits

Seminole’s girls and boys water polo teams advanced to the FHSAA Region 1 semifinals with dominant quarterfinal victories this week.

The girls opened postseason play April 13 with a 21-1 win over Lake Howell in the Region 1 quarterfinals. Sally Sunnenberg, Abigail Coleman, Vivian Swain and Halle Zimlich each recorded three assists to lead the Seminole offense. Naia Hair, Zimlich and Raelynn Bouley each had five steals, while Gabby Pierson added four steals and one assist.

The boys followed with a 17-5 victory over Bishop Moore on April 14 in the Region 1 quarterfinals. Caiden Thompson, Adam Walker, Timmy Samples and Becton Suber each finished with three assists and two steals. Luc LeRoy led the defensive effort with four steals, Brayden Tarkowski added three steals, and Darian West contributed one assist and one steal.

Both teams now move on to the Region 1 semifinals against Winter Park. The girls are scheduled to play at 4 p.m., followed by the boys at 6 p.m.

SOFTBALL

Seminole split its recent softball games, defeating Timber Creek 7-3 before falling 6-5 to Lake Mary.

Against Timber Creek on Tuesday, Seminole used a seven-run fourth inning to pull away at home. Samantha Davidson started the rally with an RBI single, Hurley Romero followed with a two-run single, Brooklynne Farran added an RBI double, Mary Long drove in two more runs with a single, and another run scored on a wild pitch.

Anahi Arias earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs on 10 hits over seven innings while striking out four and walking one.

Davidson led Seminole offensively with two hits in four at-bats. Romero and Long each drove in two runs, while the Seminoles played error-free defense. Romero led the team in the field with five chances.

On Friday, Seminole dropped a 6-5 decision to Lake Mary after taking an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Ava Hertz paced the Seminole offense with four hits, including a three-run home run in the opening inning. Liana Neal also brought in a run after drawing a bases-loaded walk.
