DELAND – Seminole’s boys cross country team finished third and the girls placed 10th Saturday at the DeLand Invitational in DeLand.
Tyler Clarke-Lowery led the Seminole boys, finishing 12th in 17:27.48. Jadan Prudot was 16th in 17:38.16, followed by Akshay Bangalore in 18th at 18:00.44. Brady Clark placed 27th in 18:20.58, and Joseph Fisher was 31st in 18:25.69. Several Seminole runners recorded season or personal bests.
Nimrah Qureshi paced the Seminole girls, finishing 94th in 26:07.66, while Vyshnavi Behara was 98th in 26:24.30 and Ellie Pereira placed 100th in 26:28.32. All three recorded personal records.
Swimming
In swimming Wednesday, Seminole competed against Lake Brantley and Winter Springs at Lake Brantley. The Seminole boys went 2-0, defeating Winter Springs 83-19 and Lake Brantley 62-43. The girls split their two meets, defeating Winter Springs 67-32 before falling to Lake Brantley 70-35.
The boys’ 200-yard medley relay team of Chase Lampe, Brayden Tarkowski, Will McWard and John Slater finished first overall. Alex Quach won the 200 freestyle, while Caiden Thompson finished second. Seminole also swept the 50 freestyle, with Slater taking first and Lampe finishing second.
The girls’ 200 medley relay team of Gabriella Pierson, Leila Nabi, Peyton Tarkowski and Sofia Rodriguez finished second overall. Abigail Coleman placed second in the 200 freestyle.
Volleyball
In volleyball, Seminole fell to DeLand 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 Tuesday at home. Lia Hufford had nine kills and 11 digs, while McKaylah Mattis added four kills, 16 assists and nine digs.
Seminole bounced back Thursday with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-6 victory over Lyman at home. Hufford led the way with 13 kills, three aces and eight digs. Mattis contributed seven kills, 20 assists and 10 digs, while Ciara Vazquez added nine kills.
Both Seminole swimming teams will return home Wednesday, Sept. 16, to face Oviedo and Bishop Moore. The meet begins at 3 p.m., with a senior celebration scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m.
