Going undefeated is always an impressive feat in sports, no matter the level or sport.
The state’s top-ranked Seminole girls water polo team finished off the regular season with a 16-6 win over visiting Dr. Phillips on March 28 to move to a perfect 24-0.
“It’s pretty cool,” said coach Ryan Ackerson after the win. “They’re really together, have good chemistry, they work hard in practice every day and it shows right now.”
Ackerson added that the team chemistry has been one of the biggest factors in the team playing well all season.
“They do it for each other, they play for each other every game,” Ackerson said.
That was obvious in the win over Dr. Phillips as 14 of the 16 Seminole goals came off an assist.
Sophomore Vivian Swain led the way with five assists for the ‘Noles to go with her six goals on the night.
Goalkeeper Cassidy Hardin also added 13 saves in the win for the Seminoles.
Not to be overlooked Ackerson said it’s not just the girls who have found chemistry this season. The boys despite struggling a little at times have found it as well.
“They are there and they ready too,” he said.
The boys lost a close 10-8 game to the top-ranked and 23-2 Panthers.
For the boys against Dr. Phillips, Iurie Cojocaru had four field blocks and two assists while Riley Tarkowski added 8 saves for the ’Noles.
Both teams play Winter Springs on April 1 in the District 1 Tournament. Girls play at 4 pm and the boys at 7pm. If the win, the championship game is on April 3.
