OVIEDO – If you look at the passing stats from Seminole’s game against Hagerty you might scratch your head. Four passes attempted, all four were completions that were good for 124 yards and two touchdowns. But that doesn’t tell the story.
Heading into the game against the host Huskies, the Noles found themselves without a quarterback with both out with injuries.
In stepped Anthony Gay who threw the four passes and also ran for 176 yards on 17 carries scoring three touchdowns to lead Seminole to a 42-7 win to wrap up the regular season 7-2.
“Anthony did a great job coming in this week with the game plan and establishing it early on,”: coach Karl Calhoun said. “We just had to play smash mouth Seminole football, and it was fun to get back to that and running the ball down the field.”
On the night, Seminole ran the ran ball 48 times for 373 yards. Rodney Grant had 85 yards to lead the pack of the other four running backs on the night.
Seminole jumped out 35-0 before Hagerty got a late touchdown going in half time. The Noles added the final score of the night with 10 minutes left in the game.
“I’m proud of the way all of the guys played in all three phases of the game,” Calhoun said. “I am just very proud, we’ve been banged up, so I am very happy the came out and played that way tonight.”
Seminole is off the next two weeks before the playoffs start on Nov. 15. Nov 1 is a bye week followed by an extra week for makeup games granted by the FHSAA because of the two hurricanes this fall.
