Jorden Pittman went uncontested in the paint for an easy layup to give Seminole a short-lived two-point lead to start the game, but in the end it was Lake Mary’s night as the Rams down the host Noles 47-46 for the 7A District 2 title on Feb. 10.
Pittman ended the night with 9 points for the Seminoles. Senior Josiah Shackleford, fresh off scoring 1,000th career point in the District Semi-finals, led all scorers with 20 points including three-3-pointers and going 1-of-2 from the free throw line.
After Seminole took the lead off Pittman’ opening points, the Rams hit the first of nine 3-pointers on the night – four of those in the second quarter when Lake Mary built a 26-21 half time lead.
The Noles slowly cut into the Lake Mary lead, before Shackelford hit the second of his two 3-pointers on the night with 4:48 left in the third to give Seminole its first lead 30-29 since Pittman’s layup. The two teams battled back and forth from there to a 35-all tie heading in to the fourth quarter.
From there, teams traded scores with Lake Mary up 42-41 mid-way through the fourth before the Rams took the lead on a 3-pointer with 2.6 second left to break the Noles streak of six straight district titles
Seminole is the second seed but travels to Creekside in the opening round of the 7A Region 1 tournament on Feb 15.
